This blog started out as an outlet for research on my paternal grandfather, Harris Saltman, a man I never knew.  In the process, I’ve gone – and continue to go – to places I never anticipated I’d visit and revisit, both physical and personal.

    I’ve very much enjoyed reading your blog. You might be interested to know that I am leading on a project in the area delineated by red pen on your 1873 map – in other words, in the corner between Shalesmoor, Hoyle Street and Doncaster Street. It’s a project to rejuvenate what is now largely a wasteland, and – as you know – formerly the site of slum housing, workshops, a stockyard…

  5. Thanks for the feedback and those great links, Amanda. I’ve already read them, but will be coming back to them! Being an urban development professional, your project is of interest to me, particularly as I’ve been to the area (albeit some time ago). I hope we can stay in touch.
